Employment Discrimination, Harassment, Retaliation — Unpaid Wages and Overtime — Defamation — Contract Litigation

Employment Law  You cannot be denied employment, housing, leaves of absence, or wages because you identify as LGBT, appear as a certain gender, are male or female, are aged over 40, or have a disability or medical condition. (Click title for details.)

Wages and Overtime  You must be paid all wages due to you — including overtime — at the time they were earned. If your employer claims you're "exempt," California law may prove otherwise.

Defamation  If someone injures you by accident or on purpose, you may be entitled to compensation under the law.

Contract Litigation  If someone backs out of an agreement or promise they made with you, you may be able to enforce it as a contract in court.

In all these cases, the law protects you, but can be an impenetrable barrier. You need an experienced attorney on your side to help you make the right decisions and to fight for you.

As our rights increase, so too do our responsibilities and our ability to speak out when we are wronged. That's why I'm here to help you — straight, gay, lesbian, and transgender — protect your personal, family, employment and civil rights. I'm knowledgable about the issues, sensitive to your needs, and offer flexible rates.

Overview

Employment Law — You have the right to be free from invidious discrimination, retaliation for reporting unlawful conduct or helping others, and free from harassment while on the job.

Unpaid Wages and Overtime — You are entitled to receive all pay you've earned at the time you earned it. If your job duties don't include absolute control, management, or supervision, you may not be "exempt" from overtime and you may not be an "independent contractor."

Torts and Civil Rights — No one can take away your liberty, freedom from injury, and reputation because you're LGBT, a woman, disabled or of a different race.

Contracts — We can also define rights between ourselves. That is what contracts do. If you're entering a new relationship, thinking about all future outcomes now can define these rights in a protective way. Even then, sometimes you need to enforce those contractual rights.
